The development and sharing of user-generated content through internet-based applications is referred to as social media1. Hence, social media was designed to build the ideological and technological foundation of Web 2.02.

When social media was first introduced, it was viewed as a means for personal socialising and, as it evolved, it has become a tool to disseminate information rapidly around the world3. Tools known as social networking sites enable users to interact and converse with each other as well as to create, edit and share new forms of visual, textual, and audio content4.
