Minor traumatic brain injury

Investigating neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging and diffusion tensor imaging for detection of white matter abnormalities in minor traumatic brain injury: a critical review

Researchers are aiming to identify correlations between mTBI and neurological degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, shown in this CT scan.

Why I chose this topic.

Contact sports have always been an important aspect of my life – from playing them to now, more commonly, watching them at the weekend. Within contact sports there is an escalating trend for the protection of players with an emphasis on brain trauma, mainly brought on by the media pressing sporting organisations to protect players longitudinally. This encouraged me to establish what impact radiographers could make in the identification of minor brain injuries and the potential applications in research and recovery. Researching this topic has highlighted how far radiological techniques have progressed and how bright the future is for patient care and the radiography profession.
