In February 2023, Coventry University hosted its second clinical placement simulation and preparation day for first-year diagnostic radiography students. The purpose of this simulation-based learning (SBL), informally dubbed "radiography boot camp" was to employ simulation to enhance student preparedness and maximise the value of their introductory two-week clinical placement.

Access to radiography clinical placements can be challenging due to limited placement capacity1, 2, which can be caused by placement sites being shared between universities, the availability of imaging equipment, a shortage of clinical supervisors or the widespread use of a 1:1 supervision model. Radiography training providers have looked to simulation not only as a means of creating additional placement capacity but also as a method of enhancing students' readiness and effectiveness during placement3, 4.
