This is an exciting time in the world of the mammography workforce as, through working and training differently, we adapt to the challenges facing the delivery of breast services. Providing a meaningful education and career path helps retain valuable staff within the service. This article will look at the past and present drivers for the change as well as the successes and challenges.

Background

The Agenda for Change first came into operation in 2004, introducing a clear set of pay bands and grades1. The four-tiered model of service delivery was designed to address workforce shortages and to enable effective career development pathways2.
