Within the UK, diagnosis of prostate cancer typically involves the individual undergoing a number of tests requested by their general practitioner, including prostatic-specific antigen (PSA) testing, which is conducted through a blood sample, and a digital rectal examination3. Abnormalities found at this level typically lead to the individual being referred for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) assessment of the prostate as gold standard, whether that be a raised PSA level discovered during the PSA testing or an abnormal finding found during the digital rectal examination3.
